CIF officials announced on Saturday the pairings for the softball playoffs, which include many Orange County teams.
There are 256 teams entered. The playoffs begin on Thursday, May 14 with first round games in Divisions 2, 4, 6 and 8 and Friday May 15 in Divisions 1, 3, 5 and 7.
Scheduled Friday games could be moved to Thursday if agreed to by both teams.
The championships will be held in Deanna Manning Stadium at Colonel Bill Barber Park
in Irvine on Thursday, May 28 through Saturday, May 30.
It’s the second year of using current regular season data in determining playoff groupings, CIF officials noted.
TOP OC SEEDS
—Empire League champion Fullerton (24-3) is seeded third in Division 1. Murrieta Mesa is seeded first, Norco second and La Mirada fourth.
—Trinity League at-large entry Mater Dei (15-11) is seeded second in Division 2.
—-In Division 3, Freeway League co-champion Villa Park (14-14) is seeded second and Sea View League runner-up San Juan Hills (19-6-2) is seeded fourth.
—-In Division 5, Pacific Coast League No. 3 team Northwood (10-7-1) is seeded second.
—-In Division 6, Pacific Coast League co-champion Irvine, which came on strong to share the crown with Rosary is top-seeded. The Vaqueros, coached by Jim Knapp, are 11-16 overall.
AT-LARGE ENTRIES
—Canyon and Cypress, both 16-12, earned at-large entries in Division 1.
—Mater Dei earned a berth in Division 2.
—University (14-9) received a berth in Division 5.
