The Eagles (5-2) started fast as Kaden Manrique intercepted a Southlands Christian pass on the first series of the game.
Manrique, who was chosen as the defensive player of the game, had two interceptions during the non-league contest vs. Southlands Christian (2-5).
With a short field starting at the 30-yard line, Jeremie McGurn scored from 5 yards out after the Eagles’ third consecutive running play to make it 7-0.
Southlands Christian struck back with a 65-yard pass play on the next series to cut the lead to 7-6.
The two point conversion attempt failed and the Eagles went right back to work on offense. The CVC Eagles responded with 34 unanswered points (27 in the second quarter) to go into halftime with a 41-6 lead.
A running clock was used for the entire second half after the Eagles had taken care of business and put the game away in the first half.
The flu bug hit the CVC Eagles squad hard during the past week, with 10 players being sidelined, according to Coach Rick Curtis. However, all but one (freshman Hunter Long) was able to make the trip to Walnut High School on Friday night.
Rome Demongin scored from 12 yards out and had a 15 yard pick six on defense along with another rushing touchdown to lead the scoring onslaught for the CVC Eagles.
Tyler Henry completed 7 of 8 passes for 120 yards and two touchdowns (with no interceptions), as he connected with Dylen Roberts on a 33 yard touchdown and with Simeon Marton on a 29 yard TD,.
Freshman Nathan Boyce also had a 5 yard touchdown and Pablo Moser was 5 of 5 on his extra point attempts for CVC.
The Eagles are on the road again next week as they open up San Joaquin league play vs. Webb of Claremont (4 -3) in a rare Saturday afternoon 1 p.m. game.
