Beckman’s outstanding starting pitcher Justin Goldstein, who helped the Patriots reach the CIF Division 2 finals, has made a commitment to play for University of Oregon, according to Beckman Coach Kevin Lavalle.
“I’m very happy for Justin and his family,” Lavalle said. “Justin’s older brother Torin just graduated after playing baseball at Fresno State, so Justin has been a part of our program since he was 10 years old. It’s pretty cool to see a kid go from Beckman bat boy to Division 1 baseball player. He had an incredible junior season, but he didn’t rest.
“He got better this summer, and that is what a lot of colleges saw. The kid just loves pitching, and Oregon is a great place for him. I know it is a great feeling of accomplishment for him and his family, but it is also a wise life decision. He is a great student, and he’s looking forward to the academic side of college as much as he is the baseball side.”
Goldstein still has one more year with the Patriots.
“I am extremely excited to announced that I have committed to play baseball at the University of Oregon,” Goldstein said on Twitter. “I can’t wait to learn and compete with the best.”
