Beckman, Irvine and Laguna Hills baseball teams registered Pacific Coast League victories on Tuesday.
BECKMAN 6, PORTOLA 4: Cade McGuire hit a two-run home run in the first inning to give the Patriots (2-1) a fast start.
Nick McLain had two hits. Kyle Lee pitched five innings, allowing one run.
“We’re making some progress towards being the type of team we want to be, but we’re not there yet,” said Beckman Coach Kevin Lavalle.
IRVINE 6, NORTHWOOD 1: “We had a great performance on the mound by Taylor Skelley,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota.
Skelley pitched five innings, allowed one hit, one earned run and struck out three for Irvine (2-1). Northwood fell to 0-2.
Jordan Raymond was 2 for 3 with a double and one run scored and one RBI, Chandler Hazlett was 2 for 3 with a double and a run scored and two RBI and Samuel Dimaculangan was 2 for 2 with a double, a run scored an an RBI.
LAGUNA HILLS 1, UNIVERSITY 0: The Hawks won their third straight game out of the gate.
Mike Burke pitched six scoreless innings for the Hawks. Scotty Kato came in and pitchd a scoreless seventh to get the save.
Billy Schellenberg was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a sacrifice fly.
“We are excited to get off to a good start, but it is a long season, in a competitive league so we have to be present and get better each and every day,” said Laguna Hills Coach Drew Hillman.
SAVANNA 10, WHITTIER CHRISTIAN 5: Bryce Machado was 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBI to lead the Rebels. Brian Knutsen was 2 for 2 with two walks, three runs scored and pitched three innings.
Lupe Garcia, who pitched four innings, for the victory. Garcia is 1-1. He was also 2 for 4 at the plate.
