Beckman High School’s girls volleyball team celebrated its fifth consecutive Pacific Coast League title and went undefeated for the fifth season in a row, according to Patriots Coach Darin McBain.
Beckman, the No. 1-ranked team in this week’s CIF Division 3 rankings, wrapped up league play Wednesday night with a three-set victory over Sage Hill. The scores were 25-14, 25-5, 25-12.
The Patriots also celebrated senior night Wednesday.
Beckman clinched the league title last week.
“We are very excited about the upcoming playoffs and feel like we have the team that could really make a deep playoff run,” McBain said. “Our lineup is senior heavy, with eight of our 10 girls that get the bulk of the playing time in their final season with us.
“Standouts this year include our two senior setters, Victoria Turner and Joy Lee. Joy has already broken her own school single-season ace record this season and Victoria has been a go-to offensive weapon as well as running a fast offense for us.”
A number of other players have also stood out.
“Senior outside hitters Camryn Hayek and Nika Safavi have exceeded all expectations this season,” McBain said. “Both have made great strides in expanding their range offensively and solidifying their serve receive games.
“Libero Stacy Reeves, last year’s league MVP, is the best defensive player in the county, in my opinion. And her steadying presence in serve receive is key to our success.
“Senior defensive specialist Deeya Bhalodia has really stepped into her role and run with it. She could be a starting libero anywhere else, so we are lucky to have her add depth to our group.”
The Pacific Coast Conference is divided into two, four-team leagues. Irvine captured the Pacific Hills League title.
CIF playoff pairings will be announced Saturday morning.
