Beckman’s football team improved its chances of advancing to the CIF playoffs with a 24-12 Pacific Coast League victory over Northwood Thursday night at Tustin.
Omar Abdullah rushed for 190 yards and scored on a 27-yard TD pass from quarterback Jason Cheng and also ran for a 67-yard touchdown to lead the Patriots (5-4, 2-2).
Jamar Coleman had a 31-yard field goal late in the third quarter to give the Patriots a 24-12 lead.
Northwood quarterback Jaden Piazza threw two TD passes to Luke Demaio – for 1 and 67 yards but Piazza and the other Northwood quarterback Tanner Buck were intercepted a total of five times.
Beckman took the opening lead when Cheng connected with Aiden Fordyce on an 8-yard TD pass in the first quarter.
Northwood (6-3, 2-2) still has a shot at advancing to the CIF playoffs but the Timberwolves may have to knock off Irvine next week to advance.
