In its last game of the 2019-20 regular season, the Santa Ana College men’s basketball team ran away with its 11th win of the season, running past Orange Coast College 109-86 on Friday night.
Santa Ana (11-17, 6-10) started all four of its sophomores and had all of them score in double-digits. Ramon Lopez led the way with 24 points followed by Sean Githens with 20 points, Jeremiah Morehead with 17 points and Ronald Ellison with 13 points.
As a team, the Dons had one of their best offensive games of the year, finishing with a 56.8 (42-of-74) field goal percentage while shooting 51.9 (14-of-27) percent from three and 91.7 (11-12) percent from the free throw line. The team posted a season high 109 points in the season finale.
Santa Ana also outrebounded the shorthanded Pirates 44-21, giving themselves 16 more shots than their opponent.
Orange Coast College dropped to 5-23 overall and 2-14 in conference play.
THREE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYERS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE
The Santa Ana women’s basketball team had three players named to the 2019-20 All-Orange Empire Conference teams.
Brianna Aluva earned first team honors after leading Santa Ana in both points and rebounds. The sophomore from El Dorado High put up 13.8 points per game while also averaging 5.5 rebounds a game.
Lexi Ross, a sophomore out of Kennedy High, made her second appearance on the All-OEC team as she took home second team honors in her freshman season as well. This season, she averaged 8.5 points per game while bringing down 4.5 rebounds per game.
And freshman guard Nicole Robles played her way onto the second team as she gave the Dons a scoring punch with 10.4 points per game. She made 40 percent of her three-point attempts and led the team in assists at 1.9 per game.
TRACK TEAM COMPETING IN INVITATIONAL FRIDAY
After competing in the Carl Rossi Relays on Saturday, the Santa Ana College track and field program will focus in on the Orange Empire Conference Invitational at Riverside City College on Friday, Feb. 28.
