While poor playing conditions wiped out the entire varsity baseball schedule for the Pacific Coast League Friday, there was at least one lower level game played in Irvine.
In that one, Irvine and University junior varsity teams battled to a 3-3 tie before the game was called because of darkness, according to Uni varsity coach Michael Thompson.
Alex Qu pitched three innings, struck five and allowed one earned run for University.
Ryan Shaw was 2-for-3 with two walks and Manny RodrÃguez had a 2-run single with the bases loaded to make it a 3-2 game.
The rule regarding rainouts does not apply to lower levels. (To see why all the varsity games were postponed, please click here)
