Woodbridge’s girls flag football team started out Pacific Coast League play with a 59-12 victory over crosstown rival Northwood to improve its record to 9-4 overall.
“Northwood is a well-coached team and always a tough league matchup, so we were very pleased with the way our team came out and executed the game plan,” said Woodbridge Coach Mark Thompson. “It was a great team effort and an important way to open league play.”
Quarterback Delia Stone led the Warriors in last week’s game at Northwood, completing 29 of 37 passes for 307 yards.
“She did a great job spreading the ball around, throwing touchdowns to Izzy Loui, Loghan Everett, Laney Brucker and three to Lauren Gagnier,” Thompson said. “Delia also rushed 15 times for 109 yards and two touchdowns, and contributed defensively with two interceptions.”
Woodbridge is back in action Thursday, hosting Laguna Beach at 2:45 p.m. The Warriors also host Portola Monday at 3:30 p.m. in a league game.
“Our goal for the rest of the season is to continue improving every game and put ourselves in a position to win league and build momentum heading into playoffs,” Thompson said. “A big emphasis for us is becoming more consistent, playing with focus and discipline. We have a talented group, but we know there is still a lot of room for growth.”
