Grindlinger, 17, was the 12th overall pick selected. He was drafted by the Angels as an outfielder but Huntington Beach coach Benji Medure noted that based on Grindlinger’s success as a pitcher, he could have a future on the mound as well with the Angels.

Grindlinger toured the Angels clubhouse and was expected to attend Friday night’s game with the Tigers, the first of a three-game series at Angel Stadium. The games will be televised on the Angels Baseball Network.

Grindlinger batted .376 (41/109) with 26 runs scored, 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 22 RBI and
a 1.000 OPS for Huntington Beach this past season.

He is the fourth Huntington Beach player selected in the first round of the draft.

Three other former Oilers: Hank Conger (Angels, 2006), Nick Pratto (Kansas City, 2017) and Ralphy Veleazquez (Cleveland, 2023) were also selected in the first round.
