Laguna Hills girls basketball team, after capturing the CIF State Division V So Cal championship Tuesday night, is headed to the state finals Friday morning in Sacramento.
The Hawks (21-13) will face Northern California champion Woodland Christian (32-3) Friday at 10 a.m. at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
Laguna Hills rolled to a 43-24 victory over Schurr Tuesday night at Laguna Hills.
Keira McDermott scored 22 points and made six 3-pointers and Cameron McDermott scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead Laguna Hills.
“The defense keyed the victory,” Laguna Hills Coach Jim Martin said Wednesday. “Lena Goodman headed up the effort and helped hold Schurr’s star guard Valerie Sepulveda to nine points. Schurr did not score double digits in any quarter. Keira McDermott got us off to a good start with a couple of early threes. Cameron McDermott just missed a double double. A good team win.”
Laguna Hills has been to the state final twice, winning in 1997. The Hawks were the runner-ups in 2012, Martin said.
Friday’s game is the first of 12 finals Friday and Saturday in Sacramento.
