University opened Pacific Coast League boys basketball action with a come from behind home win over St. Margaret’s, 63-48 Tuesday night.
St. Margaret’s opened a 14-9 lead after the first quarter. University took the lead right before halftime but St. Margaret’s had a 26-24 halftime lead courtesy of four 3-pointers and several fast break buckets.
University went on a 14-0 run to open the third quarter and led 45-32 after three quarters buoyed by seven steals. St. Margaret’s could only cut the deficit to seven points down the stretch and University pulled away in the last two minutes.
St. Margaret’s (9-8, 0-1) was led by a pair of juniors. Austin Kang had 14 points and two 3-pointers while Botty O’Kane had 13 points.
University (5-12, 1-0) had a breakout performance by junior guard Nader Chalan who had 20 points (15 in the second half), eight rebounds, five assists and six steals.
Junior center Abdallah Shami had his twelfth double-double of the season with 13 points, 19 rebounds (eight offensive), three assists and three blocks. Sophomore forward Lucas Haun added nine points and four rebounds while sophomore point guard Connor Cao netted eight points to go along with five steals.

TUSTIN 64, CALVARY CHAPEL 52: In an Empire League game, Peyton Montha scored 17 points and had six rebounds, Brannon Hampton had 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, John Gonzales had nine points and three assists, Felix Alcazar had nine points, six rebounds and three assists and Dillon Walker eight points to lead the Tillers (12-10, 2-0).
EL DORADO 59, VILLA PARK 57: The Golden Hawks (17-2, 2-0) captured a Freeway League victory Tuesday night. Noah Barker scored 22 points and took a charge to end the game, Elias Rodarte had 13 points, Evan Nam nine points and Jack Boettner eight points to lead Coach Ryan Mounce’s team.
