Woodbridge High School outfielder Nevan Namgoong had a memorable senior season with the Warriors, leading the team to a successful Pacific Coast League season and two CIF playoff victories. Woodbridge also captured the championship at the Ryan Lemmon Invitational.

Namgoong was rewarded by being named to the South team for the 57th annnual Orange County All-Star Game on Wednesday night at the Great Park.

The game, sponsored by the Ryan Lemmon Foundation, starts at 6:30 p.m.

“I think I had a pretty good season this year,” Namgoong said Sunday during the team’s practice at Irvine Valley College. “I was super excited to see the email saying that I got on the team and I’m super appreciative of them picking me and I’m just blessed to be here.

“It means a lot, freshman year of high school I was kind of struggling finding my way up, so it’s a big accomplishment for me to be here senior year.”

Namgoong has some goals for Wednesday’s game.

“I’m definitely going to try and get some hits in the game,” he said. “I’m going to do my best on the field and just have a good time and soak it all in. It’s great to see all these people, I’m happy to be surrounded by great people overall.”

Woodbridge, coached by Ryan Brucker, finished 21-10 overall, losing to Thousand Oaks in the quarterfinal round of the CIF Division 3 playoffs. Included in the run was a 10-inning 2-1 victory over Irvine in the second round.

Namgoong finished with a .441 batting average, 32 runs scored, 13 RBI, six doubles and three triples.

“We had a pretty great season, I feel like we kind of slipped up on a couple teams I think we could have beaten but overall we did pretty good, everyone battled pretty well and thanks to Coach (Ryan) Brucker,” he said.

Namgoong said he’s still looking at options for next year.

“I’ve got a couple colleges I’m thinking about but I’ve not made a final decision yet,” he said. “It’s still a work in progress.”
