Orange County high school baseball highlights and final scores for Friday, April 18

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

NORTHWOOD 2, LAGUNA BEACH 1: Northwood continued its push for a CIF playoff berth, handing league-leading Laguna Beach (18-3, 9-1) its first league loss Friday. Paul Grossman notched his first complete game to earn the win and also scored the game-winning run for the Timberwolves (9-13-1, 5-5). Joseph Harper and Colin Carlson led the hitting attack.

WOODBRIDGE 2, UNIVERSITY 1: Kyle Underwood earned the win for Woodbridge, allowing no runs in five innings. He allowed one hit, walked two and struck out six. Nolan Stottlemyer was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI and Nevan Namgoong was 1 for 2 with a run scored and a walk to lead Woodbridge (16-7, 5-5).

Portola 2, Irvine 1 (10 innings)

KENNEDY 5, SEGERSTROM 2: The Fighting Irish helped their CIF playoff chances with a win Friday.

CORONA DEL MAR 5, MARINA 2: The Sea Kings (11-12, 5-10) won their fourth in a row and completed a series sweep of Marina Friday. Stevie Jones threw six scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out seven. Jones, Marc Soloman and Gannon Overfelt all had two hits for CdM.

NEWPORT HARBOR 6, FOUNTAIN VALLEY 4: The Sailors completed a league sweep of Fountain Valley. Lucas Perez pitched a complete game allowing one earned run.

CRESTVIEW LEAGUE

VILLA PARK 5, EL MODENA 1: The Spartans (16-5, 5-3) were led by Val Lopez who pitched 4 1/3 innings allowing two hits and one run and striking out four. Owen Smith (2-0) got the win, pitching one inning allowing one hit. Logan Hoppie earned the save, pitching 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs and no hits. Dom Gutierrez was 2 for 3 with two RBI, Ezra Ornelas was 1 for 1 with an RBI, Gunner Santillo was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Shawn Romero 1 for 4 with an RBI.

CYPRESS 9, FOOTHILL 1: Cypress completed a sweep of Foothill and inched closer to the league title.

COAST LEAGUE

ESTANCIA 15, ORANGE 3: Estancia (12-9, 7-3) was led by winning pitcher Nico Viramontes (7-0). He allowed three earned runs in six innings, five hits and struck out four.

Sean Sweeney was 3 for 3 with two runs scored, RBI and a double; Jake Humphries was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI; Viramontes was 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI and Miles Dodge was 2 for 5 with two runs scored and a double and Vaughn McCrea was 1 for 3 with a run scored, two RBI and a triple.

“With the win tonight, Estancia clinched a playoff spot,” said Coach Nate Goellrich.
