Segerstrom High School’s football team improved its record to 2-0 with a 57-0 non-league victory over Santa Ana Valley Friday night at Segerstrom.
It was the Jaguars second straight shutout. Segerstrom has outscored its first two opponents 94-0.
“Last night was a great team win,” Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa said Saturday. “Our defense set the tone on the first drive with Jullian Hernandez recovering a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown. We never looked back after that. Defensively Ayden Morales and company flew around creating several big stops. Nicholas Cervantes had a big interception that set up a one play touchdown drive.
“On offense we tried to get everyone involved. Noah Tagaloa scored on the first offensive play of the game to jumpstart the scoring. Ayden Morales had a long touchdown run and Jesse Lopez threw touchdown passes to Andrew Diaz, Nicholas Cervantes and Cristian Ramos. Jason Salazar and Joshua Garcia also added rushing touchdowns in the second half.”

Tagaloa said the special teams units were solid too.
“Diego Hernandez and Elio Castrejon (were) perfect on their extra point attempts,” he said.
Santa Ana Valley dropped to 0-2 to start the season and has been shutout in both games.
“I got a lot of respect for Coach (Alfredo) Macias over at Valley,” Tagaloa said. “Although the score might not show it, but his guys came out and never backed down and played hard for all for quarters.
“Our guys are excited for next week as we take on California High School. We go on the road for the first time this season and are looking to continue playing at a high level.”
