CORONA DEL MAR 4, BISHOP AMAT 4 (8 innings): The Sea Kings opened the All in Palm Desert Tourney Monday with a tie. There is a 2 hour, 30 minute time limit for each game, according to CdM Coach Kevin McCaffrey.
Dennis Fitzpatrick led CdM’s seven-hit attack, going 3 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Carter Danz had a two-out RBI double in the seventh inning to tie the game and also made a diving catch in the bottom of the seventh.
Jackson McDonald threw out a runner from right field in the bottom of the seventh to extend the game.
Brycen Hill went six innings, allowing four hits and one earned run. Jake Garcia pitched the seventh and eighth and did not allow a run.
“I’m proud of how the boys fought back today,” McCaffrey said. “Being down two runs in the seventh and down to one final out and they found a way to fight back to tie the game. I’m really happy for Carter Danz. His clutch double tied the game in the seventh and then he goes out and makes a fabulous diving play in left field. The boys played with great energy this afternoon.”
CdM (8-10-1) plays Shadow Hills in the second game Tuesday at 2 p.m.
NORTHWOOD 2, LAGUNA HILLS 1: Northwood (13-7, 10-4) captured a Pacific Coast League victory Monday. Bobby Bangs hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh innning to drive in Kaden Chan, who had singled earlier in the inning. Paul Grossman threw six innings giving up just one hit while striking out seven, according to Northwood Coach Doug Euper. Andres Hernandez threw a scoreless seventh inning to notch the win.
LA HABRA 9, CAPISTRANO VALLEY CHRISTIAN 8: The Highlanders improved their record to 12-2-2 with a win on Monday. Jacob Garcia was 2 for 3 with a home run, double and three RBI; Bobby Brooks was 2 for 3 with two runs scored; Bobby Fiero was 2 for 3 with an RBI; and Andrew Gandara had two RBI. Alex Harro pitched 2 1/3 innings to close out the game and get the victory.
