Final scores and highlights from first day of Ryan Lemmon Baseball Invitational

Gahr, Northwood, Irvine, Newport Harbor and Ayala among teams who open with victories.

GAHR 10, SAN CLEMENTE 2: The Gladiators, ranked No. 2 in CIF Division 2 poll last week, were led by catcher Angel Cortez, who belted a solo home run in the first inning and a three run homer in the second inning. He also singled in the fourth inning. Gahr (11-2-1) broke the game open with six runs in the second inning. Lead-off hitter Mike Lee also had a two-run single in the inning.

Starting pitcher Jaden Alba was solid through six innings, allowing three hits and one earned run before giving way to Xavier Navarro in the seventh.

San Clemente (9-4) scored its two runs in the second inning, one coming on an RBI triple by Kayden Raymond. Raymond scored on an error.

NORTHWOOD 3, CITRUS VALLEY 2 (8 innings): Northwood opened the Ryan Lemmon Invitational with a 3-2 victory over Citrus Valley Saturday afternoon at the Great Park.

Joseph Harper ended the game with a walk off single in the bottom of the eighth, according to Coach Doug Euper. Carter Liu threw four innings in relief to pick up the win. Liu struck out three, giving up one run on two hits. Ahmad Kazi went 3 for 3 and Bobby Bangs 3 for 4 with an RBI.

IRVNE 6, EDISON 5: The Vaqueros were led by Owen Featherston who was 2 for 2 with a walk and a sacrifice; Ian Hew, who was 2 for 3 with a double and a walk and Henry Jeong, who was 1 for 2 with a walk. Josh Gutierrez was 1 for 2 with a walk.

NEWPORT HARBOR 7, BOUNTIFUL (UTAH) 0: Dominic Viglione got the win, pitching three innings and striking out seven. Tyler Clark pitched three innings and struck out five. Adam Martin was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Roman Blaser was 2 for 3 with two doubles and three RBI.

AYALA 8, CORNER CANYON 7 (9 innings); Caleb Trugman was the winning pitcher. Cadin Gates pitched four innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs. Liam Terrell pitched 1 1/3 innings allowing one hit and striking out two and Aiden Nunez pitched 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs.

Ethan Nunez was 2 for 3, Andrew Torres was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI, Trugman was 1 for 4 with an RB, Jake Lemoine was 1 for 3, Matthew Yarc was 2 for 4 and Anthony Hernandez 1 for 1 with two RBI to lead Ayala (7-6) offensively.
