Beckman High School’s boys tennis team won its first CIF title Friday, defeating Los Alamitos 10-8 Friday in the Division 2 title match at the Claremont Club.
“It was a great season overall for the team in a challenging Pacific Coast League as usual,” said Beckman Athletic Director Steve Fischel.
“We were ranked number one in our division but relied on an at-large entry to get into the playoffs after finishing fifth with a 5-7 league record. The team got challenged by two very good teams, Troy and Dos Pueblos, in the quarters and semis.
“We got contributions from all of our starters throughout the playoffs and especially today in the finals against Los Alamitos. They braved the heat today and showed tremendous character en route to their 10-8 win. I’m grateful to Coach (Nick) Friendt and his staff for their leadership and I’m extremely proud of this team for what they’ve accomplished and how they’ve represented our school.”
Members of the team are: Micah Ellington, David Han, Darren Hsu, Brian Kim, Jeffrey Lane, Caden Lee, Connor Lee, Ryan Park, Jonathan Prijyanonda, Brian Tekadtuera, Ethan Votran, Yicheng Wang, Oiver Zaragaza, Ivan Lu, Hari Raghavan and Kyle Han.
