Tarbut ‘V Torah’s baseball team has made school history Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica in the second round of the CIF Division 7 playoffs.
The Lions will play Lancaster Friday at 3:15 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the CIF Division 7 playoffs at Lancaster.
“I’m so proud of my boys for making TVT history today in our second round CIF game,” TVT Coach Jeff Towning said. “Our school has never made it past the second round of CIF (playoffs) for baseball and we got a 7-0 win today vs. Pacifica Christian/Santa Monica.”
TVT was led by senior pitcher Jake Toporek, who has committed to Division 1 Wagner College. He had 17 strikeouts in six innings on the mound.
Sophomore second baseman Max Toporek went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and two RBI and senior shortstop Zane Glatman went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Sophomore center fielder Ethan Arlow went 2 for 4 with two RB.
“It was a 2-0 ball game going into the top of the sixth until our number nine atter Matt Dermeik doubled to start a five-run two out rally to get the score to 7-0,” Towning said. “Zane Glatman came in to shut the door in the bottom of the seventh and had three strikeouts.”
