PACIFICA 5, CREAN LUTHERAN 2: The Mariners earned a co-championship with Cypress in the Empire League. Both teams finished 8-2. Aidan Colin pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing one earned run. He was also 2 for 3 at the plate.
Logan Groff walked twice and had an RBI, Ryan Anema walked twice and scored two runs and Ken Faul was 1 for 2 with a walk and a run scored for the Mariners.
NORTHWOOD 8, UNIVERSITY 6: Cal Euper, the son of acting Northwood coach Doug Euper, got the Pacific Coast League win. Cal Euper was 3-2 on the season. Darren Shorter registered his second save.
Shorter was 2 for 2 with two runs scored for Northwood (8-16). University finished 5-19.
“I’m happy for my team and especially for the seniors, they finished the season strong,” said Doug Euper. “We started off 0-5 this year, the team kept working harder to try and turn the season around and they did.
“Cal pitched really well for the first four innings, then Darren Shorter came in and closed the door. Both teams competed with everything they had. It’s what high school baseball is all about.”
WOODBRIDGE 4, BECKMAN 2 (8 innings): The Warriors, who clinched the outright PCL title Wednesday, won another game from the Patriots Thursday at Beckman.
Woodbridge (21-3) was led by Lucky Ramanathan, who got the win pitching four innings in relief. Ramanathan (8-2) allowed just one hit, no runs and struck out seven. He also had the eventual game winning hit in the eighth inning. Ramanathan has an ERA of 0.54.
Luke De Vries had two hits and an RBI, Connor Tallakson had two hits, Alejandro Pacheco had a double and Dylan Blakey and Nathan Perry each had an RBI.
Beckman finished 17-7 and will be the league’s No. 2 representative competing in the CIF Division 1 playoffs.
VILLA PARK 8, CANYON 3: The Spartans (22-5, 5-1) captured the Crestview League championship.
EL MODENA 9, ESPERANZA 3: The Vanguards (13-13, 4-1) won the North Hills League title. Aaron Ceniceros got the victory, alllowing no runs and two hits in six innings and striking out 10. Brendon Killeen was 2 for 4 and Ryan Osso had two RBI and a double. It was El Modena’s sixth win in a row.
LOS AMIGOS 3, LOARA 2: Juan Gutierez had the walk-off walk to win for the Lobos. Josiah Alvarez went the distance to get the win.
TRABUCO HILLS 10, ALISO NIGUEL 2: The Sea View League champion Mustangs (20-9, 9-3) celebrated senior day with a win. Garrett Strenger was 1 for 1 with two runs scored, Bobby Gray was 1 for 1 with two runs scored, Luke Bethmann was 1 for 2 with an RBI, Mason Molina was 1 for 1 with a home run and three RBI and Jordan Brown was 2 for 4 with two doubles and a run scored.
Ryan Faulks pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings striking out six, Danny Suarez pitched 2 2/3 innnings, striking out three and Jordan Brown pitched one scoreless inning, striking out one.
PORTOLA 17, LAGUNA HILLS 7: The Bulldogs (5-19) won their second game in a row over the third place Hawks. Senior Luke Shen (3-2 ) pitched for six innings allowing five hits and no earned runs.
Dylan Blailock came on to pitch in the seventh. Senior Anthony Mendez and Brendon Kuromoto had three hits each. Shen improved his team leading 33 hits with two doubles. (12 on the season).
Senior Kensay Sato and Junior Ian Shih all had two hits.
“I am so happy and proud of the way the team battled and finished the season,” said Portola Coach Kevin Conlin. Instead of rolling over, they played their best three games of the year vs. playoff competition.”
