Woodbridge avenges weekend loss to Uni with PCL victory to remain in title hunt

Woodbridge High School’s baseball team bounced back from Saturday’s Pacific Coast League loss to University defeating the Trojans 5-2 Monday at Ryan Lemmon Stadium.

Woodbridge (17-7, 11-3) is two games behind Pacific Coast League leader Beckman (18-5, 13-1) with two weeks left in the regular season. The teams play Thursday at Ryan Lemmon Stadium and Monday at Beckman. Beckman is playing nonleague opponents early in the week. The Patriots defeated Barstow 5-4 on Monday.

Woodbridge scored four runs in the first inning to take control in Monday’s game against University.University won Saturday’s contest 6-5 in 10 innings.

In the rematch, Jake Amundson was 2 for 3 with two RBI and a run scored and Chase Quezada was 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI to lead the Warriors. Nate Perry, Matthew Kuromoto and Sean McCance also scored runs for Woodbridge.

Dylan Blakey pitched the first six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) and struck out eight. Justin Durby finished on the mound for Woodbridge with a scoreless seventh inning, striking out one.

Luke Weston was 2 for 4 with a run scored, Jake Goldberg was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Rivin Ruhanage was 3 for 3 with an RBI for University.

Woodbridge outhit University 7-6.
