Villa Park’s boys basketball team capped a perfect week at the Grizzly Invitational defeating Laguna Beach 46-40 Saturday night at Godinez.
Riley Schroeder and Damien Parker led the Spartans (8-1) with 15 points each. It’s the second year in a row that Villa Park has won the Godinez tournament.
“Laguna is good and we knew it was going to be a grind it out kind of game,” said Villa Park Coach Kevin Reynolds. We knew we would have to execute in the last three to four minutes and we were fortunate enough to make sound plays.”
Parker was named tournament MVP and Schroeder and and Dino Sdrales were named all-tournament. Sdrales had seven points Saturday night.
“In addition to our all tourney guys, we got great contributions from Max Domer and Donovon House down the stretch.”
Villa Park went undefeated in the 21-team tournament.
“We are happy to be 8-1 with a tournament championship at this point in the year,” Reynolds said. “We are in the Bellflower Tournament next week.”
