Northwood’s football team, which captured the CIF Division 11 title last weekend (the first football crown in the school’s history) was out to earn a berth in next weekend’s state final.
The Timberwolves hosted Righetti Saturday at Irvine Stadium.
CIF Central Section 7 champion Righetti wins 14-7 and moves on to face Sacred Heart, which defeated University Prep 20-0 in the Northern California Bowl game.
Highlights from earlier:
Righetti 14, Northwood 7 (FINAL)
—Righetti takes a 7-0 lead on a 41-yard TD run by Elias Martinez with 11:57 left in the second quarter.
—Northwood got to the Righetti 31 late in the second quarter but could not convert on fourth down and fumbled with 23 seconds left.
—-In the fourth, Northwood has the ball on Righetti 38 following a fake punt which earned Northwood first down. Righetti stopped Harper on 4th and 1 at the 27.
—-Righetti scored on an18-yard TD by Bradley Spence. Northwood answered with a TD run by Eugene Miyata with 2:05 left. Northwood was unable to recover an onside kick.
—-Righetti fumble, Northwood recovers on Rigehtti 42. 1:44 left.
—Righetti intercepts in end zone with 1:00 left. Northwood has no timeouts left. Righetti runs out the clock and heads to the state finals next weekend.
