University’s High’s second year football coach Chris Hernandez unveiled his team’s new-look helmet this week.
“We had our 50-year anniversary this year and our Principal, Dr. Kevin Astor put up some pictures of the football team,” Hernandez told OC Sports Zone in an Email.
“They had white helmets with a Navy college style ‘U’ that I thought was a neat look. I ran the idea of white helmets by a few of the players and they thought it would look clean.
“After the season we had last year, anyway to change things up and be different was welcome, but at the end of the day, it’s just a helmet. That stuff is for the players but now it’s my job to make sure we are prepared so we won’t just look good, but we can actually play well enough to achieve our goals.”
The Trojans are trying to bounce back from a winless season last year. They are scheduled to open the season Friday, Aug. 21, on the road against Whittier Christian but the opener, along with others in Orange County, could be postponed to a later date because of the coronavirus pandemic.
