Uni captures win in back and forth PCL basketball game at home against Woodbridge

University came from behind at home in the fourth quarter to top Woodbridge 46-44 in a Pacific Coast League boys basketball game Friday night at Uni.

Woodbridge led after one period 10-9 and was poised to lead at halftime before University’s Yousuf Chalan hit a half court three-point bank shot to put the Trojans in front, 18-16.

Woodbridge forced nine University turnovers in the third quarter to go back ahead 33-27 after the third quarter.

University (6-14, 2-2) went on a 12-1 run over the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to go in front, 39-34. Down six, Woodbridge (13-9, 1-3) was able to knot the score at 42 all on Garrett DiCostanzo’s and-one and Kishan Pandhoh’s 3-pointer from the corner.

But Josh Thio hit a 3-pointer for University and made a free throw with nine seconds to go to ice the game.

Sophomore forward Lucas Haun led University with 14 points on four three pointers and a breakaway dunk while grabbing six rebounds and three steals. Junior center Abdallah Shami had another double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior forward Josh Thio had seven points (all in the fourth quarter), six rebounds, two assists and three steals. Sophomore guard Yousuf Chalan had six points and eight assists.

Woodbridge was once again playing without injured all league guard Jaiden Sabino. DiCostanzo was game high scorer with 15 points. Sophomore point guard Jahan Adloo finished with 11 points while senior forward Zaccaria Saleh added seven points.
