Kody Uyesugi scored 25 points to lead University to a victory Wednesday.
University’s boys basketball team improved its overall record to 10-7 with a victory over Murrieta Valley Wednesday in the opening round of the Tustin Classic.
The Trojans held a 59-55 lead after three quarters and outscored the Nighthawks 21-11 down the stretch to secure the win.
Kody Uyesugi led University with 25 points and had seven assists. Andrea Roy had five 3-pointers and scored 22 points.
Will Stenta had 17 points and 13 rebounds. He was cleared to play after suffering a facial injury last week against Northwood. Initially, Stenta was diagnosed with a possible concussion and it was expected he might miss this week’s tournament, according to Coach Mike Dinneen.
Stenta and Uyesugi each had three 3-point field goals.
“All of our starters played well and we were able to control the tempo of the game and negate the size disadvantage we faced during the game,” Dinneen said.
University faces Millikan Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the second round at Tustin.
