Top-ranked Cypress beats HB 9-3 in Boras Classic and Coach Weber gets 300th win

Cypress High’s baseball team, which continues to be No. 1 in the CIF Division 1 rankings, evened its mark at 1-1 in the Boras Classic at Mater Dei with a 9-3 victory over No. 4 Huntington Beach Wednesday afternoon.

Brett Wozniak got the victory, pitching a complete game as Cypress (14-2) avenged a 6-2 loss to Mira Costa on Tuesday.

It was the 300th career coaching victory for Cypress Coach John Weber.

“None of this could be possible without, first and foremost, having a lot of really good baseball players, as well as what I consider to be the best assistant coaches around,” Weber told OC Sports Zone.

“We are in the Boras tournament, rated one of the best tournaments in the country,” said Cypress Coach John Weber.

The Centurions (13-1) have a strong pitching staff led by Wozniak, who going into Saturday’s game against San Juan Hills had a 4-0 record and a 1.45 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 24 innings.

Other top pitchers include Cameron Repetti (4-1, 0.42 ERA. 33 strikeouts in 33 innings), Tyler Chaffee (2-0, 2.80 ERA, one save), Michael McFarland (2-0, 1.65 ERA, one save) and Patrick Shanahan (0-0, 1.23 ERA)

Top hitters so far for the Centurions have been Chaffee (.432, nine RBI, seven runs scored), Wozniak (.394, eight RBI, nine runs scored), Garrett Crenshaw (.389, five RBI, 10 runs scored), Mike Marsh (.368, 12 runs, seven RBI), Repetti (.317, 12 runs, nine RBI), Luke Davis (.281, nine RBI, eight runs scored), Braden Murphy (.262, nine RBI, nine runs scored) and Noah Carter (seven RBI, seven runs scored).
