Thursday’s OC high school basketball tourney and non-league highlights

It’s a big day for Orange County high school basketball teams and OC Sports Zone will provide updates on games as scores come in today, Thursday, Dec. 22.

BOYS

Houston Christian 88, Crean Lutheran 84 (OT): Houston Christian won the championship game at the Tarkanian Classic, New Orleans Division. Kaiden Bailey scored 36 points grabbed six rebounds and had five assists, Braeden Davidson had 19 points and Kenneth Bailey nine points and six assists to lead Crean Lutheran (7-4).]

JSerra 58, Desert Pines 34: The Lions wrapped up the Tarkanian Classic with a victory Thursday to capture the consolation championship in its division. Sebastian Rancik scored 14 points and Aidan Fowler 13 points to lead JSerra (11-1).

Laguna Hills 55, Jurupa Hills 38: The Hawks won the tournament at Western. Dominic Bolton scored 14 points, Omari Smith 12 and Michael Bichel 10 points to lead Laguna Hills (9-5). Bichel was named tournament MVP. Shariar Mohseni was named all-tournament.

Aliso Niguel 47, Portola 36: Jay Fromm scored 16 points and Tanner Shone 11 points to lead Aliso Niguel (9-4). Aliso Niguel has won six games in a row. Garrett Trayer grabbed 15 rebounds for the Wolverines.

San Juan Hills 56, Beckman 49: Mason Hodges and Nathan Brosch scored 12 points each to lead San Juan Hills (9-5). Abhi Archarya scored 17 points to lead Beckman (7-6).

Tesoro 69, Cypress 59: Carson Brown scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, Nathan Draper had 18 points and 10 rebounds, Jake Bennett had 14 points and eight rebounds and Blake Manning had 12 points and 12 assists for Tesoro (12-2). He broke his previous assist record for a game.

Hayden Roberts scored 15 points, Ryan Gov had 13 points and Jonas Hanson 11 points for Cypress (5-8). Cypress battled until the end and the game will help the team grow, Coach Derek Mitchell said on Twitter.

Foothill 65, San Clemente 50: The Knights (11-1) were led by Travis Paleo, who had 22 points and four rebounds; Jordan Martin, who had 14 points and six rebounds; and Carlo Billings, who had 11 points, four rebounds and six assists. It was the final of four games at the North-South Challenge.

NON-LEAGUE

El Dorado 67, Anaheim 54: Nathan Meek scored 19 points, Jacob Arce had 17 points and five steals, Nate Natividad had 11 points and Caleb Hendrix six points to lead El Dorado (9-5). The Hawks, who were shorthanded, rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to outscore Anaheim 29-11 in the third quarter, according to Coach Ryan Mounce.

California 50, Kennedy 48 (OT): California captured a non-league win Thursday night on the road. Jaylen Lauriano scored 17 points and Trey Cabrera 16 points including the game-winning layup with one second left to lead California (4-11). Lucas Marcoft led Kennedy (1-12) with 11 points.

Yorba Linda 55, Chino Hills 52: The Mustangs (11-3) were led by Orlando Laws with 13 points; Caylen Jang, who had 11 points; and Jordan Laws, who had 10 points.

GIRLS

Portola 56, Mountain Pointe (Ariz.) 49 (OT): The Bulldogs (11-3) wrapped up the Nike Tournament of Champions with a win in the seventh place championship game Thursday. Moka Saiki had 27 points and Kira Watanabe 12 points to lead Portola.
