Tesoro High School’s boys basketball team capped a successful week at the Tesoro Classic with a 65-58 victory over Calvary Chapel in the third place game of the Tustin Classic Saturday at Tesoro.
The Titans (8-10 overall) were led by Benjamin Pangilinan, who had 33 points. Carter Johnson added eight points for Tesoro, which lost in the semifinals to Tustin Friday night.
Pangilinan and Johnson were named to the all-tournament team and Nelson also played well.
“I was really pleased with our consistency on defense and how we stayed together for 32 minutes,” said Tesoro Coach Steve Garrett.
Tesoro captured the CIF 2AA title last year. This year, the team has 12 new players on varsity and no returning starters, Garrett said.
