Terry Thompson has been named the new head softball coach at Cypress High School, according to Athletic Director Jeffrey Russell.
Thompson replaces Kevin Dull, who stepped down as coach after five seasons, Russell said. Dull was 74-49-1 at Cypress and led the Centurions to a league title in 2021 and the CIF Division 2 championship in 2019. Cypress was also voted the 2019 Division 2 state champion by Cal-Hi Sports.
Cypress was 12-16 overall and 6-4 in the Empire League last season.
Thompson has been coaching softball for the past 16 years. He has coached travel ball, been an assistant at Kennedy High School and has been an assistant at Cypress since 2019. Thompson also led a 12-and-under travel ball team to the national title, Russell added.
“I’ve enjoyed being an assistant with Coach Dull and look forward to continuing the winning success of the program,” Thompson said in a statement from Cypress officials.
