The Sunset League battled back from a 5-0 deficit to defeat the Trinity League 6-5 in the Ryan Lemmon Senior Showcase Saturday at Ryan Lemmon Stadium, according to Corona del Mar Coach Kevin McCaffrey.
Corona del Mar, the Sunset Wave League champion, was represented by Jack Bolt, Ethan Watson, Kevin McCaffrey, Dillon Gomes and Charlie Mannon.
“It was so great to see these guys in the Sea King uniform one last time,” McCaffrey said. “It’s always a fun event for the boys as they get to team up with players they competed against all year.
“The Ryan Lemmon Foundation always make their events so special for the athletes.”
Players from Huntington Beach, Newport Harbor, and JSerra were not able to play in the showcase as their teams will compete in the regional tournament in a week, McCaffrey added.
In the other games Saturday, the Orange Coast League defeated the Orange League 11-1 and the combined Sea View League/South Coast League team defeated the Pacific Coast League 6-5.
In Friday’s opening games, the Golden West League defeated the Freeway League 3-1 and the Century League defeated the Empire League 4-1.
The two-day event was sponsored by the Ryan Lemmon Foundation. Tournament director was Dick Owens.
