Sonora clinches share of Freeway League title with 7-4 victory over Fullerton

Sonora left-handed pitcher Jack Meek struck out 10 and pitched a complete game and Austin Haller homered to lead Sonora’s baseball team to a 7-4 Freeway League victory over Fullerton Monday afternoon at Fullerton College. 

The Raiders (11-2, 17-8) have won eight consecutive games and 11 of their last 12 and clinched at least a tie of the league title with two regular season games remaining. 

Haller homered in the first inning, his second of the season, to give Sonora a 2-0 lead. The Raiders added three more runs in the third inning, sparked by an RBI single by Izaak Fernandez and a steal of home by Isaiah Lopez Del Haro to up its lead to 5-0. Haller scored three runs and had two RBI. Santino Torres had two hits and an RBI for the Raiders. 

The Indians rallied for four runs in the bottom of third, highlighted by RBI singles by Nate Norman and Andrew Violet.

Meek shut down Fullerton the rest of way and has struck out 52 batters in 58 innings this season. He improved his record to 5-2 with a 1.82 ERA. 

The Indians (8-5, 13-10) fell into third-place in league, behind second-place La Habra, who defeated Sunny Hills 6-0 on Monday. 

Fullerton and Sonora play again Wednesday and Friday to finish the regular season.
