The Jaguars (8-0 overall) took the first step toward what they hope will be the league title.
“Last night was exciting to get into league play,” said Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa. “We always talk about competing every snap and understanding that success will come. I think tonight was a prime example of that. Both teams played extremely physical and got after it.
“We were led by Angel Vega at QB as he found Iverson Fuiava early and often as they connected for two touchdown passes on the night. Vega’s ability to keep plays alive with his feet and understanding of the offense, allowed for much of the success Friday night.”
“The offense was very methodical and moved the ball well most of the night. The longest play of the night came from Nathan Tagaloa’s second half run of 40 yards that set up Anthony Gomez’s 5-yard touchdown catch.”
Anthony Gomez also added two field goals, with a long of 42 yards, Tagaloa said.
“The defense was also solid,” the coach said.
“Our defense flew around all night with everyone playing solid up front. Those guys played sound football making sure they did their assignments. The big play came when Douglas Lopez came up from his defensive back position and forced a fumble. Anthony Gomez scooped it and and took it in for the touchdown.
“All in all it is always great to get a win in league play, but we have to continue to get better and stay focused.”
Segerstrom plays Marina next Friday night at Huntington Beach.
