Segerstrom’s football team battled back from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat Thousand Oaks 29-28 Friday night in the homecoming game.
“Last night our team showed resilience and really came together to play all four quarters,” said Coach Joseph Tagaloa.
“We got down by half time 21-7 but our guys continued to fight. As we got into the second half our offensive line really finished strong allowing our offense to seal the victory. There were several big plays that allowed us to move the ball and erase the first half deficit. Julian Diaz ran hard all night setting the tone for the offense. We had touchdowns scored by Frankie Gonzalez, Noble Acosta and Cristian Galaviz.
The defense also stood out for the Jaguars (1-3).
“Defensively our front four got after it and came up big down the stretch keeping a talented Thousand Oaks offense in check in the fourth quarter,” Tagaloa said. “The play that sealed the game came with a meeting of our defensive line at the quarterback and forcing a strip sack that Paul Mendoza was able to recover.
“A solid effort by our special teams ultimately made the difference at the end of the game. Moises Garcia and company played well all night. Overall just a solid team win. We will look to get better and improve this week for a tough Trabuco Hills team.”
The Jaguars play at Trabuco Hills Friday night.
