Segerstrom and Godinez basketball doubleheader added; two other games postponed

Local athletic directors continued to make adjustments in schedules Friday due to healthy and safety protocols resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.

UPDATES:

—Segerstrom and Godinez have added a girls and boys basketball doubleheader for Friday, Jan. 7 at Godinez. The girls game starts at 5:30 and the boys game at 7 p.m.

Attendance will be limited to four persons per player, according to Godinez Athletic Director Bill Snyder.

“We know already with postponements that we have already that making up all games this winter season will be a challenge so when Godinez and Segerstrom had games postponed …. it made sense to try and get a game in when we could,” Snyder said.

Fans attending the games will be required to wear masks, a current California law for indoor venues.

The Segerstrom-Godinez games were scheduled for Feb. 1.

—-The Woodbridge and Portola Pacific Coast League girls basketball game scheduled for Friday, Jan. 7 has been postponed and rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 24, according to Portola Athletic Director Peter Abe.

Abe said school officials would “Err on side of caution with limited numbers following positive COVID exposure.”

Woodbridge girls basketball coach Keith Clarkson said his team has not been affected by the virus.

The game would have been a contest for first place in the league between two undefeated teams. Woodbridge is 4-0 and Portola 3-0.

—Cypress boys basketball program announced on Twitter that the Empire League game with Crean Lutheran, scheduled for Friday, Jan. 7, has been postponed due to COVID protocol within the Cypress program. No make-up date has been announced.

—On Thursday, Concordia University Irvine officials announced that attendance at home sporting events will be limited to persons on a pre-approved list from visiting and home teams.
