Segerstrom’s softball team defeated Sunny Hills 5-2 in eight innings Tuesday in the CIF Division 4 quarterfinal round to earn a spot in the CIF Division 4 semifinals.
The Jaguars will play at Hemet Thursday at 3 p.m.
It will be the first time in school history the team has advanced to the semifinal round, according to Jaguars coach Yvonne Alonzo.

Fourth-seeded Segerstrom (22-2) loaded the bases in the second inning, but settled for one run. Sunny Hills scored two runs in their bottom half of the second inning to take a 2-1 lead.
The Jaguars Bella Martinez hit her 10th home run deep over the center field fence, tying the game at 2-2, Alonzo said.
In the eighth inning, the Jaguars scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead.
Gizzy Altamirano singled, Bella Martinez was intentionally walked and Michelle Delgado was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Amanda Mendoza then hit a hard ball off the third basemen’s glove, to drive in Altamirano. Freshmen, Jazmin Flores drove the ball deep over the center fielder’s head for a double to drive in Martinez and Delgado.
Altamirano was 3 for 4 with two runs scored, Martinez was 3 for 3 with a single, double, home run and an RBI.
Rebeca Cabezas got the win for Segerstrom, improving her record to 18-1. She allowed four hits and one earned runand struck out four.
