Patrick McMorris, the San Diego State junior safety who starred at Santa Ana High School, received another honor this week when he was named first team All-Mountain West Conference.
So far this season, McMorris has a team-high 79 tackles (48 solo), including 2.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions for 36 yards, eight pass breakups and a 15-yard fumble recovery.
McMorris was joined on the first team by teammates Cameron Thomas, Matt Araiza, offensive linemen William Dunkle and Zachary Thomas, linebacker Caden McDonald, safety Trenton Thompson and kick returner Jordan Byrd.
On Monday, McMorris was named the Mountain West Conference defensive player of the week. McMorris was a standout running back for Santa Ana High School in 2018.
San Diego State head coach Brade Hoke was named the conference’s coach of the year, Thomas was selected MVP on defense and Araiza MVP on special teams.
San Diego State hosts Utah State in the Mountain West Championship game at noon Saturday at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson.
