Santa Ana High School’s football team, coming off an Orange Coast League title run in the spring, had an impressive victory on the road defeating Long Beach Millikan 48-41 Friday night.
Saints coach Charlie TeGantvoort said the victory came against a Millikan team that “has multiple players offered by Division 1 colleges.”
Santa Ana was led by sophomore quarterback Sergio Torres who accounted for five total touchdowns, three passing and two rushing in his first varsity start, TeGantvoort said.
“Jason Costa and Raul Alvarez led the rushing attack behind an O-Line anchored by senior leader Nathan Lopez-Duarte,” the coach added. “The defense battled all night with great play from linebackers Jesus Olvera, Andrew Burgoa and Ian Hermassillo with defensive end Michael Hughes applying constant pressure in the backfield.”
TeGantvoort said he hopes the Saints can continue their solid play this week when they host El Modena Friday at 7 p.m. at the Santa Ana Stadium.
“It was a great team victory and we are hoping to continue to improve this week in pursuit of another win vs. El Modena,” he said. “Go Saints.”
TeGantvoort went into the season with high hopes. To see a pre-season story by Fernando M. Donado, please click here.
