Santa Ana College’s football team made it five victories in a row with a 56-14 win over Orange Coast College Saturday afternoon at OCC. SAC remains atop of the Metro Conference with two regular season games to play.
Ceasar Ayala threw three touchdowns passes as SAC improved its record to 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Dons have scored 40 or more points in each of their five victories.
Ayala connected on a 64-TD pass to Tyler Shimomura early in the first quarter to give the Dons a 7-0 lead. A few minutes later, Gary Ferman upped SAC’s lead to 14-0 with a 1-yard TD run.
Ayala completed 17 of 26 passes for 260 yards and now has 20 TD passes for the season. After the Pirates cut the lead to 14-7, Ayala tossed a pair of TD passes to Kyran Hayes in the second quarter to give the Dons a 28-7 lead at halftime.
SAC’s wide receivers had a big game as Shimomura and Arthur Shaw combined to catch 11 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns.
SAC put the game out of reach when it added three touchdowns in the third quarter. Devyon Benton returned an interception 73 yards for a score and Jalen Hones returned a pick-6 25 yards to increase the Dons lead to 42-7.
Shaw caught a 38-yard TD from David Griffin late in the third quarter and Benton returned a second interception 61 yards for a TD to complete the SAC scoring.
SAC’s defense was also up to the task as Jalen Jones, Matthew Galvan and Daylen Fuller combined to rack up 26 tackles as the Dons defense dominated.
Saturday was the first time the two schools have played each other since 2015 and the Dons took home the “Victory Flag Game” with the win.
