Segerstrom 5, JW North 4 (8 innings): The Jaguars (10-9) opened play with a victory Saturday. Kenny Cabada pitched five scoreless relief innings while striking out nine to earn the walk-off victory. Adrian Villegas, Zander Bretza and Bruno Banuelos each had multiple hits to lead the offense.
“James Gonzalez had an incredible defensive gem in extra innings to drive in the winning run,” said Segerstrom Coach Erasmo Ramirez.
Segerstrom is off to a 6-0 start in Golden West League play.
Corona del Mar 9, Northwood 3: CdM (13-6 overall) won its eighth in a row Saturday at the Great Park. Ethan Watson got the win on the mound and Van Sidebotham was 2 for 3 with two RBI to lead the offense.
Irvine 4, Canyon 3 (9 innings): Irvine (6-12) captured a walk-off win at the Great Park to open the tourney.
“It was a well played game,” said Irvine Coach Gabriel Cota. “We struggled on the mound early, but our pitchers were able to keep us in the game. We played by the California extra inning rules so in the ninth it started with runners on second and third with one out. In our half of the ninth we had an intentional walk, a hit by pitch and a walk off walk.
Nate Valencia 2 for 4 with two RBI and the game-winning RBI, Tate Zimmerman was 2 for 2; with an RBI and a walk and Taylor Skelley was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk.
Matt Kim pitched for three innings and did not allow a hit and one earned run and Darren Shen pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing no runs.

Villa Park 4, University 0: Gavin Grahovac was 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI and Tyler Gordon was 2 for 4 with two RBI to lead the Spartans (14-2). Geoff McArthur pitched five innings, allowing one hit and striking out six and Ethan Hale pitched two innings, striking out three.
