Portola High School’s girls flag football team has jumped off to a 9-2 start under Coach Julie Primero.
The Bulldogs have already captured one tournament championship, winning the Division 2 title at the Labor Day event at University last week.
“The girls this year have been playing their hearts out,” Primero said.
Portola’s top players have been Amelia Atchison, Joey Nesland, Camden Everett, Sophia Reyna and Chelsea Wong.
“Our senior captains have provided great leadership this year and have really set up a positive and supportive team environment, on and off the field,” Primero said.
The senior captains are Blayze Borroto, Zoe Del Rosario, Aleena Advani and Amelia Atchison.
“The entire team has shown grit and commitment and that has been the biggest factor of our success so far,” the coach said. “Our goals for this season are to get better each day, make CIF playoffs and make a run for league title.”
In the Labor Day tournament, Portola defeated Beckman, Mayfair and Shadow Hills. The Bulldogs (2-1 in league) also defeated Rosary Academy 27-12 in a league game.
Portola faces Sage Hill on Monday.
