PORTOLA 8, REDLANDS 7: The Bulldogs captured a victory on the road in the second round of the CIF Division 4 playoffs.
Liam McGuane led Portola scoring four goals.
“This was a tough game for us as we weren’t always getting the calls we wanted but the boys were resilient and played hard until the very end,” said Portola Coach Kate Avery. “Redlands was a great opponent too; awesome sportsmanship. Overall a great game.”
Portola moves on to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs Saturday at 5 p.m. against Fullerton at Portola.
CREAN LUTHERAN 18, LAKESIDE 6: The top-seeded Saints notched another road victory in the CIF Division 6 playoffs.
“It was a great team win for us today,” said Crean Lutheran Coach Ed Carrera.
The Saints move on to face Mark Keppel High School Saturday at 3 p.m. in the quarterfinals at the Wollett Aquatics Complex.
Junior Tate Fitzgerald scored six goals, sophomore Jonathan DiPinto had five goals, freshman Mark DiPinto had two goals, senior Blaise Tomassian had two goals and freshmen Nik Morman and Bobby Holmes had one goal each.
Austin Griffin, the Saints senior goalie, blocked three penalty shots.
“I think it’s important to note that we are starting three freshmen,” Carrera said.
