Placentia Pony Bronco 12-and-under baseball squad opened the super regional Thursday night with a 12-0 victory over Santa Ynez at the Santana Regional Park in Corona.
Adrian Rosales and Cole Petler combined to pitch a five inning shutout, according to Manager Nick Nunnari. Petler struck out four batters over three innings.
Jack Nunnari went 2 for 4 with three RBI including a two-RBI single in the first inning. Finn Knapp, Tyler Erwin and Adrian Rosales each had RBI triples and Jeremiah Peterson added an RBI double, Leadoff batter Oliver Rojas scored four runs.
“I thought the boys played a very clean game, lead by the pitchers throwing strikes and backed by solid defense,” Nick Nunnari said. “On offense, we swung the bats well and it was a great way to kickoff super regions.”
Placentia which on Monday won the regional at Placentia Champions Sports Complex, continues play in the super regional Saturday against West Covina. The game was scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m.
Olive Orange is also in the tournament. Olive defeated Jurupa 14-2 on Friday night and plays Saturday at 4:30 p.m. vs. Pacific Palisades.
There are 16 teams in the double-elimination tournament which continues through Tuesday.
