After capturing a 43-36 Freeway League victory over Fullerton, Sonora High School’s football team is focused on the next game Friday vs. Troy at La Habra.
Sonora (7-1, 3-0) and Troy (5-3, 3-0) are tied for first place with two weeks left in the regular season. Troy (5-3, 3-0) defeated Buena Park 21-7 Friday night.
“This was a big victory for our kids,” Sonora Coach Kevin Oberlander said of the win over Fullerton Friday night. “Our games vs. Fullerton are close every year so we knew it was going to be a battle. We’ve played good defense all year, but tonight it was our offense taking charge and controlling the game.
“We told the team this game would probably come down to the turnover battle and we were right. I’m proud of our offense for having zero turnovers and our defense for causing a fumble on the last Fullerton position of the game.”
