“Last night our guys played with grit and determination,” said Segerstrom Coach Joseph Tagaloa. “Our defense really stepped up and played an amazing game with a forced fumble, fumble recovery, and two interceptions. Andrew Abarca had the fumble recovery and one of the interceptions and Ayden Morales had the other in overtime. Up front, the defensive line was led by Vicente Rivera and Joshua Preciado who continuously put pressure on the quarterback.”
Segerstrom was able to win despite missing some scoring chances.
“Offensively we were forced to overcome many missed opportunities and mistakes to gut out the victory,” Tagaloa said. “Noah Martinez connected with Ayden Morales for a 30-yard touchdown before the half that tied the game. We had the ball inside the red zone several times, throughout the game, but were unable to finish the drives.
“In our offensive possession in overtime we were finally able to find the end zone again as Louis Garcia took the snap from eight yards out and dove into the end zone. Defensively we were able to flush the quarterback outside the pocket and Ayden Morales came up with the interception to seal the victory.”
Ryan Nero hauled in a TD catch for Brea Olinda’s score.
Segerstrom wraps up league play Thursday night, hosting Garden Grove (2-7, 0-4).
“Now we need to prepare for a tough Garden Grove team who always comes ready to play,” the coach said.
Brea Olinda finishes league play Friday, Oct. 31 vs. Esperanza at Yorba Linda.
