Segerstrom’s football team wrapped up non-league play Friday night defeating Cerritos 35-6 at Cerritos.
“First let me just say I am really proud of the way our guys have been resilient throughout the season,” said Coach Joseph Tagaloa on Saturday.
“Going into this week we have definitely had our share of setbacks, but we continue to show up and put in the work. Last night was a cumulation of finally putting everything together. It started with our defense. They really stepped up and played well all night.
“Our secondary was tested early on, but they were able to adjust and come up with big plays. Erik Martinez and Markos Correa both had key interceptions. Our defensive line played and got after the quarterback forcing some errant throws and stopping the run game. Sonny Naiuli recovered a fumble that led to one of our scoring drives as well.”

The offense was also solid, helping the Jaguars (2-5) roll up a big halftime lead against Cerritos (2-5).
“Offensively we executed early as we were able to put 35 points on the board in the first half,” Tagaloa said. “Our offensive line set the tone allowing us to stay balanced. Noble Acosta got us on the scoreboard first as he made a big catch on third and long, then finished the drive with a rushing touchdown.
“Frankie Gonzalez was accurate throwing the ball as well. He connected with Noble Acosta and Alijah Sadler for big touchdown throws. Frankie was also able to use his legs breaking several tackles on his way to a 65 yard rushing touchdown. The offense finished off the scoring with a big catch by Christian Galaviz that set us up at the 1 yard line. Julian Diaz took it in from one yard out right before the half.
“Our special teams play was solid as well. Led by our kicker Moises Garcia, we were able maintain our momentum throughout the game.”
Segerstrom opens up Big Four League play Friday at home against Marina (2-5).
“I am looking forward to next week as we begin league play when we take on a solid Marina team,” Tagaloa said.
