Ten was a pretty good number for Ocean View’s baseball team Wednesday afternoon.

The Seahawks defeated Godinez 10-0 for their 10th win in a row and clinched at least a share of the Golden West League title with three games to go, according to their head coach Tanner Van Maanen.

“It always feels good,” said Van Maanen of the crown. “The guys are playing really well. That’s 10 wins in a row for us, so that’s always a huge plus when you get on a roll like that.”

Ocean View starter Brandon Wood pitched the first five innings allowing three hits and striking out seven. The senior is 8-0 overall and 4-0 in league for the Seahawks, ranked No. 5 in this week’s CIF Division 2 poll. Max Takacs closed it out with two hitless innings, striking out two.

Visiting Ocean View (17-6 overall, 7-0 in league) was led offensively by Thomas Williams who went 3 for 3 with three RBI and a run scored.

“Again it was a different guy in our lineup that had a great day,” Van Maanen said. “Williams from our leadoff spot, had a double, triple and a base hit and a couple RBI. It was just another guy in the order coming up and doing his thing. That’s been our story all year, a different guy in the order will get hot and do some good stuff and guys will piece it together in the back half or a different spot and we score a bunch of runs.”

Jack Rockefeller also contributed going 3 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored and had a two-run double in the fourth inning. Kai Marden also had an RBI single and Rizzy Callado had a sacrifice fly in the inning.

Williams got it going for Ocean View in the second inning when he belted a 2-run double to put the Seahawks ahead. He also had an RBI triple during Ocean View’s five-run fourth inning.

“I felt pretty good, I was just doing my regular swing that I take every day and I finally got pitches to hit,” Williams said. “It (the league title) feels pretty good, we got a good team this year and we got a lot of good guys so I think we will go pretty far.”

Ocean View extended its lead to 3-0 with a run in the third inning. James Legg drove in Caleb Holman, who walked to lead off.

Godinez (3-6, 2-5) had a couple chances early. In the first inning, Juan Plascencia singled, Jacob Carlos reached on an error and Ulises Garcia was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. However Wood struck out the next two batters.

In the bottom of the second inning, Charles Crismond doubled with two outs but Wood got lead-off hitter Matthew Sarabia to ground out back to the mound.

“No excuses, they’re a quality team,” said Godinez Coach Luke MacLennan. “We knew we were going to have our hands full today. They’re solid on the bump. they made some great defensive plays and offensively, they’re tough.

“We had the bases loaded early and just couldn’t put a solid swing on the baseball. Wood is really good, we were sitting on his fastball and then he came out and started hrowing his curveball. Kudos to him, he’s going to be a good one.”

Junior Kevin Gallegos started on the mound for Godinez before being relieved by Andrew Maravilla in the fourth inning. Damien Pinto came on to pitch the seventh inning for the Grizzlies.
