Calvary Chapel High School’s football team notched its first victory of the season, defeating Polytechnic of Pasadena 44-13 Saturday afternoon in Pasadena.
Quinlan Russell completed 10 of 23 passes for 174 yards and one TD pass and Matt Peters connected on 1 of 2 passes for 26 yards for Coach Jack McInally’s team (1-4).

Peters rushed for 122 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown, Isaiah Arriola had nine carries for 60 yards and a TD and Russell and Pops Soto each had TD runs for Calvary Chapel.
Jorge Brito had four catches for 96 yards and a touchdown, Peters had two catches for 68 yards, Noah Barthel had one reception for 26 yards and John Schoeiing had three catches for 16 yards.
The Eagles had some big plays, including a 58-yard TD pass from Russell to Brito in the second quarter and a pick six by Waldo Castrejon for a touchdown in the third quarter.
Arreola had a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter.
Jackson Brathwaite had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter for Polytechnic (3-2).
Calvary Chapel has a bye this week before opening Sigma League play on Thursday, Oct. 3 vs. Santa Ana Valley (0-5) at 7:30 p.m. at Segerstrom.
Two of Calvary Chapel’s losses have been by three points or less including last week’s 39-38 loss to Capo Valley Christian in the final seconds.
