Boys basketball

Beckman 74, Portola 51: Beckman (10-9, 1-0) was led by Caydon Do, who had 22 points in the Pacific Coast League opener at Portola. Tai Nguyen added 15 points, Moe Hernandez 12 points and Adrian Ibarra nine points and seven assists for the Patriots.

“We had another slow start tonight going down 12-3 after the first eight minutes,” said Beckman Coach Lucas Armstrong. “You have to give Coach (Brian) Smith’s team credit as they were gritty from the start and forced us into bad shots.
