NEWPORT HARBOR 6, CORONA DEL MAR 1: The Sailors (14-9, 3-4) captured a Sunset Wave League victory Thursday and won the Battle of the Bay series Thursday. Visiting Newport Harbor outhit CdM 11-3. Corona del Mar dropped to 15-9 and 5-2 in league play.
Trent Liolios got the win, pitching 6 2/3 innings. He allowed three hits and one run and struck out four.
Joey Wright was 1 for 3 with two runs scored, Bryce Blaser was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Liolios was 3 for 4 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored, AJ Guitron-Moore was 2 for 4 with two RBI, Austin Lueck waas 1 for 2 with two walks, Troy Christensen was 1 for 1 with a double and Jack Morris was 1 for 2.
VILLA PARK 3, EL DORADO 1: A.J. Kroedel (6-0 ) got the win, pitching seven innings and allowing two hits striking out four for the Spartans (20-2, 6-1). Geoff McArthur and Zach Brown were 1 for 2 with with an RBI, Jack Burke was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Gavin Grahovac was 1 for 2 with a run scored and Tyler Gordon was 2 for 2 with two runs scored.
LOARA 8, WESTMINSTER 6: Loara, trailing 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning, scored six runs to record the non-league victory Thursday. Loara is 9-7 overall and 7-4 in league play. Richie Navarro had three RBI, including a two-run double.
Derek Hurtado, Matt Sutton, Charlie Diaz and Paul Galvan all had RBI singles in the six-run fifth inning.
